This remarkable film is filled with extraordinary performances which power a sometimes light, sometimes dark account of a teenager who dreams of stardom but whose reality is blighted by material and spiritual poverty. Teenager Precious is played impressively by newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe.
Fully titled, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, director Lee Daniels and writer Geoffrey S. Fletcher collaborated to produce one of the best films of 2009. Fletcher’s screenplay won him an Oscar, as did Mo’Nique’s portrayal as Precious’ mother.

Wonderful Cinema 
I watched this recently. I knew it was going to be difficult viewing, but it was compelling nonetheless. A beautiful ending; worth waiting for.
