Hollywood (Definition)

Hollywood is a district of Los Angeles, California.

Hollywood is an all-encompassing expression for mainstream US films. The American movie industry was born in Hollywood just after the beginning of the 20th century. Although nowadays many mainstream motion picture studios are no longer based in Hollywood, the term is still used to describe their output.

Typical examples of Hollywood output would be Citizen Kane (1941), Double Indemnity (1944), The Graduate (1967), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), Halloween (1978), Airplane! (1980) and The Shining (1980).
