I Killed My Mother received an eight-minute standing ovation when it was shown at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where it won three awards. It is the assured debut of then 19-year-old Canadian director, Xavier Dolan.

Dolan wrote I Killed My Mother when he was 16 years old. By his account, it is the semi-autobiographical exposé of the complex relationship between his mother and himself. Dolan directs and stars alongside Anne Dorval, both giving top class performances.

The depth of human understanding and the ability to convey those ideas to the screen is masterful. The fact Dolan is so young is even more impressive. Here is a directer with a big future in front of him.

  1. Very good film but an annoying one considering how young Dolan was/still is! 😛

The follow up “Heartbeats” is pretty good too but a tad self indulgent in places. But I agree, Dolan is definitely one to watch for the future.

    1. Where could you find the film? Amazon.fr probablement. ;O)

Thank you very much for the film tip – always greatly appreciated!

  2. I wasn’t a big fan of this flim’s plot, however speaking to the director’s effort the film itself was beautifully made. Moreover, I did not quite understand why the main character was so miserable even though his mom was very accepting of his sexuality. Maybe I’m getting it all wrong, comments. Also, I liked Heartbeats way more.

  3. Mortgage Advice Manchester may not seem like something
that’s easy to approach in a simple, healthy and positive fashion.
After you actually look at and work with some of the available info, however, you are
going to see that there are several ways to choose from.

In order to make the right decision, you need to do an
inventory of where you actually are today and decide what is going to be best
for you based on that. One of the best sites you can visit for
