Winter’s Bone (2010)

2010 Winter's Bone Movie Film Cinema Poster Art Advance Teaser Theatrical

Winter’s Bone is a superior film with a truly phenomenal performance by its young star, Jennifer Lawrence.

21-year-old Lawrence is currently box office dynamite in the smash hit, The Hunger Games. But this is not her first great success. She has already been nominated for and won several acting awards for her performances in The Poker House (2008), The Burning Plain (2008) and now this film too. It was her outstanding performance in Winter’s Bone that cemented Lawrence’s status as a major star of the future. With The Hunger Games she is likely to become a megastar.

Directed by Debra Granik, based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell, Winter’s Bone is a compelling, bleak drama about the courage of a teenager in the face of adversity, in a downtrodden and criminal society that has been all but forgotten by the outside world.

  1. First of all I want to thank you for following papermudandme. I very much appreciate that there is a trailer with your comment/review of the film.

  2. Good film. One of the few films to restore your faith in modern Hollywood in lieu of the usual tosh they put out.

  3. Loved this movie. Love it. It was my first experience with Ms. Lawrence and I was really just blown away. Unfortunately hunger games is crap, as is the x men prequel. I enjoyed the movies, but quality-wise they are fluff. I hope she gets the big money movies out of her system and goes back to movies like winter’s bone. A career arc more like meryl streep as opposed to halle berry. lol.

  4. Winter’s Bone is a British movie? Really? That’s odd.
I haven’t seen the movie yet but I just ordered it today so it will probably be my weekend viewing. I have read the novel on which it’s based though and really enjoyed that.
Jennifer Lawrence is a fantastic actress. I saw Silver Linings Playbook in December and was blown away by how good it was!

Thanks for following my blog. 🙂

  5. I read the book first and didn’t love the film as much as I may have otherwise. I agree the acting is very good, but some of the story change choices seemed…odd, unnecessary and detracting- to me. It’s a very good book.

  6. I’ve never heard of this but after watching the trailer, I want to get it now! Wow, it looks SO good. Not liking that I’m seeing some people say it’s sad but I’ll put on my “big girl panties” and suck it up and deal with it. lmbo Love Jennifer Lawrence 🙂

  7. This has been on my “to-watch” list for a while! Have to check it out soon. Thanks for following my blog; I’ll make sure you to visit yours often! -Katrina

  8. This is an amazing film… the scenery is just beautifully bleak and wonderful. Me and my friend were googling oscar nominees for a new film to watch last year, and came across this – so glad we did – i have recommended it to so many people now, and i’m glad you guys are too – great blog 🙂

  9. I loved this film. It made me read the book, which I loved as well. Just had a light bulb moment, thanks to your blog and comments — I learnt that Jennifer Lawrence was in both this and Silver Linings Playbook. No wonder I liked both films! 🙂 Thanks for visiting me and following.
